Cancer Australia Research Initiative Targeted Call for Research: Early-Onset Cancer 2025

Grant Amount: $7 million (total pool)
Closing Date: 10 September 2025 (minimum data due 27 August 2025)

Cancer Australia identified early-onset cancers (EOC) as a strategic priority due to its global rise and diverse tumour sub-types, requiring further research on environmental and genetic interactions. The first CARI TCR grant opportunity aims to:

• Enhance understanding of EOC and develop novel clinical approaches for earlier diagnosis and innovative models of care to ensure effective management for those affected by EOC

• Support programs that leverage existing, multidisciplinary, collaborative activities, and that are designed to link to enduring broader research initiatives, to inform policy and large scale, novel research for EOC in future. The first CARI TCR grant opportunity will be guided by strategic, long-term approaches to address the possible causes, pathogenesis, early recognition and diagnosis, as well as complexities of management and survivorship associated with EOC. Applications may focus on a single tumour sub-type or multiple tumour types. Proposals addressing cancers that have a greater burden of disease are encouraged.

The objective of the 2025 NHMRC-GACD grant opportunity is to fund implementation research that will generate evidence about strategies to strengthen health systems in LMICs and/or for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities in Australia.

The intended outcome of the research is to improve the health and wellbeing of Australians by developing innovative, technology-enabled, patient-centred models of care that enhance healthcare delivery and promote equitable health outcomes.

National Health and Medical Research Council Partnership Projects

Grant Amount: up to $5 million
Closing Date: 26 November 2025 (minimum data due 12 November 2025)

Partnership Projects will support collaborations, within the Australian context, that translate research evidence into health policy and health practice, to improve health services and processes.

Avant Foundation Research Grants

Grant Amount: up to $100,000
Applications open: September 2025
Closing Date: December 2025

Avant Foundation Research Grants are open to universities, institutions and charities.

In assessing the project budget, we will consider whether the project represents value for money and its feasibility in terms of a likely outcome.

The number, type and value of projects funded will be determined by the quantity and quality of applications received and is entirely at our discretion.

It is intended that Australian Rotary Health will provide a stipend and incidental support for a postgraduate student who is undertaking full time research in the specified areas.

Applicants must be enrolled in an Australian University, an Australian citizen, Australian Permanent Resident, or New Zealand citizen, and not be under bond to any foreign government in order to be eligible. Evidence of citizenship (citizenship certificate, birth certificate, and passport) or residential status must accompany this application.

MRFF – Clinical Trials Activity Initiative – 2025 International Clinical Trial Collaborations Grant Opportunity

Grant Amount: up to $3 million
Closing Date: 4 February 2026 (minimum data due 28 January 2026)

The objective of this grant opportunity is to provide grants of financial assistance to support medical research and medical innovation projects that:

  • Promote Australian involvement in international collaborative investigator-initiated clinical trials research through the establishment and co-ordination of clinical trial site/s in Australia.

  • Provide high-quality evidence of the effectiveness of novel health treatments, drugs or devices in ‘usual care’ settings, which will support a decision on whether to deliver the intervention in an Australian setting.
